Antaios Chrysostomidis was born in Cairo in 1952. He spent his later childhood in Nicosia and Athens, and then studied architecture in Rome. However, he only worked a little as an architect, preferring journalism. He currently works for a Greek Sunday national paper and is involved in the world of publishing.
In his free time he translates Italian literature. His translations include works by I. Calvino,
D. Buzzati, L. Sciascia,
C. Malaparte, L. Visconti,
I. Silone, D. Maraini, P. Ingrao and others. He has also translated eight books by Antonio Tabucchi and is himself the author of two biographies, on Chryssa Romanou (1994) and Nikos Kessanlis (1999).

Antonio Tabucchi, in Italy, meets Antaios Chrysostomidis, the Greek translator of eight of his works, and embarks on a long confessio about himself and the books he has written. The conversation is then carried on in various parts of Greece, and wanders onto other subjects, such as politics, the cinema, literary genres, the moral principles of contemporary European law, and the wine of Santorini, and to other personalities, such as Pessoa and Cavafy, Fellini, Pasolini, Camus, and Blanchot. They end up discussing, of all things, a grubby shirt.
This is a book both for those who already love and admire the work of Tabucchi and for those who have yet to encounter the writings of one of Italy's major contemporary literary figures.
